An Exhibition Celebrating David Hockney

Hockney is globally celebrated as an artist who has redefined the boundaries of painting. So, it comes as no surprise that a major exhibition celebrating the oeuvre of the artist will be displayed on 2 November 2023 at the National Portrait Gallery in London. The title of the exhibition  Drawing from Life is a nod to Hockney’s use of drawing. For Hockney, drawing is a fundamental way of exploring the world around in, and this is precisely what the exhibition explores: drawing as a testing ground and exploration for what’s to come.

The exhibition will display 30 new portraits of Hockney and feature around 160 works from private, as well as public collections. By mainly focusing on Hockney’s portraiture, the exhibition traces Hockney’s practice through the intimacy within his portraits of five sitters: his friend, Celia Birtwell; his mother, Laura Hockney; his former partner, Gregory Evans; his printer, Maurice Payne; and the artist himself. One of the newest works that is to be exhibited at the exhibition is the painting that depicts pop icon Harry styles. It will be unveiled at the exhibition for the first time.

The exhibition will run from 2 November 2023  to 21 January 2024. Tickets are on sale now.
