Marina Allen Reveals Second Album Centrifics

LA-based musician Marina Allen has just released her second album titled Centrifics.

Marina’s vocals are woven into soft instrumentals. Yet, this album cannot be classified. It is neither jazz, nor folk. While there is a tinge  of jazziness in songs like New Song Rising, the debut song of the album Or Else is reminiscent of the early Carole King. Though, one can also hear bits of the great Laura Nyro in some of the songs. In the song New Song Rising, Marina sings, “Life transforms me.” Transformation is clearly an apt theme undergirding this album. After all, what is life without transformations and blossoming? Anyhow, Marina’s angelic delivery of her songs makes this album personal, but also widely relatable.

When asked, Marina revealed the inspiration behind Or Else, “I wrote ‘Or Else’ in the voice of an old version of myself. By making it into a caricature and distancing myself, I was able to process the close up feeling of grief in a dissolving relationship.”
